Rayon Sports Secures Rwf 150 Million Bank Loan to Address Financial Challenges

Rayon Sports has taken out a Rwf 150 million loan from I&M Bank Rwanda in an effort to stabilize its finances and settle urgent debts, club chairman Paul Muvunyi revealed in a letter to members.

The disclosure came during an extraordinary General Assembly held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, where club members reviewed the 2024/25 season and laid out preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

Muvunyi, who has been at the helm of Rayon Sports’ Supreme Council for 10 months but is currently outside the country, did not attend the meeting in person. Instead, he sent a letter highlighting key issues he wanted addressed, including the club’s growing financial constraints.

“In the past ten months, we have faced many challenges, but the most pressing one has been financial difficulties,” Muvunyi stated. “We reached an agreement with I&M Bank to provide us with a loan of Rwf 150 million to deal with urgent debts that had become unbearable, while also improving our operations.”

He added that the funds would help Rayon Sports avoid potential FIFA sanctions linked to disputes with former coaches and players, stressing that the repayment plan would be managed through the club’s revenues.

“I ask the President of the Executive Committee to present the details of the urgent debts during this meeting,” Muvunyi wrote.

The loan, according to reports, was disbursed in phases, aligned with the financial challenges the club faced at different times.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Supreme Council, Abdallah Murenzi, announced that Rayon Sports will operate with a budget of Rwf 2 billion for the 2025/26 season.

The new season kicks off on August 12, 2025. Rayon Sports will play their first league match on September 13 against Kiyovu Sports at the Kigali Pelé Stadium.
