Rwanda hosts EAC meeting on the use of artificial intelligence (AI)
The 4th East African Community Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Conference is being held in Rwanda to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to advance the EAC region.
The conference, which began on March 30 and will end on April 1, 2026, is organized by the East African Community Science and Technology Council (EASTECO) in collaboration with the East African Council for Higher Education and Universities (IUCEA).
The two-day conference will be themed “Using Artificial Intelligence to Build a Strong, Inclusive and Innovative East Africa”.

It was attended by a diverse range of people including; leaders, researchers, innovators, the private sector, and development partners from EAC member states.
It will focus on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an engine for sustainable development, transforming the way technology is used, and driving sustainable development in the region.

It will discuss how AI can be used to advance the economy, develop technology regulations, and promote research.
Participants will also explore how to bridge the gap in AI adoption, infrastructure, governance, and technology diffusion in the region.
Other activities at the conference include high-level discussions between participating leaders and an exhibition of innovations.

There will also be a Youth and Women’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
