Healthcare workers in Rwanda to receive awards in recognition of their contribution
In an effort to appreciate and promote the well-being of healthcare workers in Rwanda, a special two-day event will be held in Kigali on October 10–11, 2025.
The event, named MEdwell Initiative, aims to raise awareness among doctors and other healthcare professionals about the importance of self-care, reducing fatigue, and recognizing their critical role in saving lives.
Activities will include volleyball games—featuring both general volleyball and a special “Doctors’ Volleyball” match—along with a tour around Kigali Golf Club scheduled for October 10, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM.
The second day, October 11, 2025, will conclude with a special award ceremony and celebration honoring healthcare workers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism in their daily work.
This initiative is organized by the Initiative for Medical Equity and Global Health (IMEGH), led by Dr. Eugene Tuyishime, Dr. Alain Irakoze, Dr. Celestin Seneza, and Dr. Jackson Ndekezi Kwizera.
Dr. Eugene Tuyishime explained that the goal is to highlight the importance of healthcare workers’ well-being:
“Doctors take on demanding work that often requires major sacrifices. The MEdwell Initiative is a way to appreciate them, encourage them, and remind them that they, too, deserve rest, play, and moments of joy.”
He further emphasized that the awards are meant to honor those who have gone above and beyond in their service:
“When someone serves the country and its people with excellence, recognizing their efforts inspires them to work even harder and innovate in their profession.”
